5 Ways to Clean Nasty Stains from your Carpet

Carpets are a great addition to any home. They look elegant and it feels great on our feet and to sit on. It is no wonder people tend to gravitate to areas that have carpets!

This means the carpet is frequently exposed to the risk of being stained. Here are a few ways recommended by the experts from carpet cleaning gold coast, to treat the most common stains on your carpet:

  1. Clean Pet Urine Stains

We all love our pets; for some owners “Rover” or “Frisky” have become part of the family. They know their way around the house, lie on furniture and carpet as everyone else. Because of frequent interaction, these pets act almost human. The only problem is humans know where to go when they have to pass waste matter!

If your pet urinates on your carpet:

  • Blot the wet area with cloth or paper towels.
  • Once the area has dried up, blot with warm water.
  • Dry the area once again.
  • Spray an enzymatic solution; you can buy this at any pet store.
  • If the smell continues to linger, make a mixture of ¼ cup white vinegar with 1 quart warm water and spray on the area.
  • Keep blotting the area until it is dry and the stain is gone.

  1. How to clean Soft drinks stains

Who doesn’t drink carbonated beverages and fruit juice mixes? Almost everyone in the household has a preferred type of soft drink. They are delicious and refreshing especially on a hot, humid day. But these also contain artificial coloring, sugars and acids that can seriously damage your carpet.

If you drip soft drinks or fruit juices on your carpet:

  • Blot the wet area with cloth or paper towels.
  • Once the area has dried up, blot with warm water.
  • Dry the area once again.
  • Make a solution of ¼ cup vinegar, 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and one quart of warm water. Pour in a sprayer.
  • Spray the solution onto the area and let it stay for 10 minutes.
  • Keep blotting the area until it is dry and the stain is gone.
  1. Cleaning Coffee stains

Coffee is a great beverage to wake up to every morning or if you want a quick “perk-me-up” in the afternoon. There are several health benefits to drinking coffee. However, they are unhealthy for your carpet! Coffee beans have a high acidity level and releases oils when brewed. Remember that drinking coffee can stain your teeth. Imagine what a drop will do to your carpet fibers if this is not attended to right away.

If coffee drips unto your carpet:

  • With coffee stains, it is important not to use the same cloth or to limit the amount of paper towels to lessen the risk of spreading. The yellowish brown stain can easily spread to a larger area if blotting is done recklessly.
  • Once the area is dry, moisten a towel with warm water and blot it again gently.
  • When the area is dry to the touch, spray with a mixture of ¼ white vinegar, one tablespoon of non-bleach detergent and one quart of water. Let it soak into the fibers for five to 10 minutes.
  • Blot dry with paper towels until stain is gone.
  1. How to remove alcohol stains

If coffee is the best way to wake up or to get you going in the afternoon, alcohol is the preferred drink to unwind the day. Whether it’s a tall, cool glass of your favorite ale, a shot of whisky or a glass of wine, a bit of alcohol can ease up some of the day’s pressures and perhaps some of the inhibitions for an exciting night ahead! But be careful because if you can’t hold your alcohol these may end up on your precious carpet.

If alcohol spills on your carpet:

  • Blot the area dry using cloth or paper towels.
  • Once dry to the touch, blot again with a clean towel moistened with warm water.
  • Blot with paper towels until dry.
  • Spray a solution of warm water, ¼ cup white vinegar and non-bleach detergent.
  • Blot with paper towels until stain is gone.
  1. Clean blood stains

Accidents are bound to happen at home. You can even get cut or wounded without knowing about it until you notice dried up blood stains near the area. Removing blood stains requires a different approach.

If blood drips on your carpet:

  • Blot the area quickly with paper towels.
  • Once the area is dry to touch, blot a clean piece of cloth with COLD water. Blood coagulates with anything warm and will penetrate the carpet fibers faster.
  • Again, dry the area with paper towels.
  • Once it is dry to the touch, spray the area with a mixture of two tablespoons of a strong liquid detergent with grease cutting action and COLD water.
  • Dry the area right away so the blood stain will transfer to the dry cloth.
  • Rinse with COLD water then dry again with paper towel until stain is gone.

There are two important rules when treating carpet stains. First, clean them right away and two, blot do not rub! It takes quite some time and effort to remove stains but it is time worth spent.
