Proper Care for Quartz Kitchen Countertops
A lot of people installed quartz countertops in their kitchen for one obvious reason – they look amazing. However, there are other benefits to it as well.
Because it is almost completely non-porous, the bacteria and food remains have almost no place to hide, so even the simplest and the most cursory cleaning can get rid of dirt very successfully, at first.
Cleaning professionals at My Cleaning Angel give us some tips about the proper care for quartz countertops.
Wipe All Spills Immediately
Even though the stone is almost non-porous, there is a small chance that some spills may be persistent enough to create a stain on your beautiful quartz countertop.
As soon as you see a spill, make sure to wipe it immediately. Not only will that help protect your countertop for longer, it will also make future cleaning much simpler, too.
Once a stain settles and dries out, especially if it was something very acidic, it can bind with the top layer of the stone and damage it a bit. Even though you won’t be able to see it at first, over time the effect will become quite visible and aesthetically unappealing.
How Not to Clean Hardened Stains
If you fail to spot a stain before it hardens and you are left with an ugly mustard or similar stain, don’t panic and don’t react rashly.
Even though your first reaction might be to get a metal spatula or some hard and abrasive brush to remove the stain quickly, that might not be the best idea.
In fact, it would most likely damage the surface of the stone, creating a suitable environment for the formation of new stains and bacteria growth.
How to Clean Hardened Stains Properly
Instead of an abrasive brush, try using a rubber or plastic spatula. You will be surprised (at first) by just how easy it is to remove hardened stains from the countertop. Just don’t make a habit out of it. Oh, and never use a knife or anything which might damage the stone.
You can also use a soft cloth and some warm water to finish the job once the majority of the stain has been removed.
Clean the Countertop Daily
In order to keep the countertop clean and looking good, it requires daily attention. Even though this might sound exhausting, it is not that bad.
All you need to do every day (provided you haven’t spilled anything or aren’t doing a thorough cleaning of the whole house) is clean the top with a soft cloth and some dish soap and water.
This simple thing will get rid of all the crumbs, grease and dust which might collect on it.
If you really want to bring out the shine of your countertop, here’s a pro tip; spray some window cleaner on it and treat it like you would a glass surface. You will be amazed at the result.
Do Not Make These Mistakes
Do not use bleach on polished stone countertops, including quartz ones. Even harsh soaps which contain small amounts of bleach are out of the question. The chemical reaction will remove the smooth surface and cause your countertop to lose its sheen and smooth texture.
Speaking of things which dull the countertop, any cleaner which contains grains is not going to be a good idea for this particular kind of countertops, so make sure you only buy smooth cleaners.
Keeping your expensive and beautiful countertop clean and looking amazing is going to take some effort, but if you know how to do it, it doesn’t have to be too complicated or take up too much of your time.
