Get the most suitable garage gate opener within your budget

Like every security system is dependent on its keys or code – garage doors are dependent on its opener. With the changing technology, if you want to replace the old garage door, it is advisable to change the opener.

You can choose from different types of garage door openers. You can opt for a traditional mechanical system to the latest hi-tech smart solutions. All the garage doors have one system in common, the opener, which controls the opening/closing of the space. But it depends on what mechanism is in use. Here are some of the major garage gate openers to get comprehensive ideas.

Chain drive garage door: The most popular and old technology still in use is the chain drive door. There are several upgrades to the older version, but the primary mechanism is the same. Most of the residential spaces prefer this door opener. The chain is an evident part of the garage gate that connects to the trolley that pulls/pushes the door. The trolley and metal bar (J-arm) fix and then connect to the door.

Pros and cons: The chain system of the garage opener is very flexible and durable. It is the most affordable gate system. Even replacement costs if significantly less, and in case of part change, it never burns your pocket. The look and feel of the chain system are not very appealing. It also makes a loud noise every time in use. The chain jingles and makes irritating noise which may grab unnecessary neighborhood attention. These are ideal for detached garages and not which are closer to the main house.

Belt drive garage gate opening: The other standard garage system is the belt drive mechanism. These are the same as the chain drive, but instead, it has a wide rubber belt. A small switch controls the belt activity for pulling/pushing the trolley. You can also opt for reinforced rubber and polyurethane for the fiberglass garage.

Pros and cons: The main advantage is that it is noise-free. It is suitable for garages that are closer to the house. There is no rattling noise because of the rubber belt. The installation and repair costs are minimal, and the downside of this opener is the price. It is more expensive than the chain drive opener.

Jackshaft and direct-drive opener for garage: The side-mount and the direct-drive opener are coming for all types of residential and commercial garage solutions. It is very different from the chain drive or belt type opener. It is motor-driven technology that mounts on the side of the overhead section. The 24.v DC motor starts opening the door that travels in a stationary chain. It is a very durable, noise-free, reliable, and efficient option. There is no maintenance cost, and it is a one-time installation.

Pros and cons: There are no chains or loops in this opener, so zero burdens are on the ceiling. It is suitable for low ceiling houses and has aesthetic appeal. The disadvantage is the pricing. It is costlier than the other two types of openers for the garage.
