Choosing Appliance and Fixtures for a New Home

Did you buy a new home or are you preparing to purchase one? If so, have you considered all the choices you have in appliances and fixtures? You may not, but don’t worry. This guide will help you choose appliances and fixtures for a new home with a few basics and point you in the right direction for your search.

The key to picking out a refrigerator for your new home is to know the dimensions of the space you have in your kitchen for a refrigerator. Although you may have a particular style in mind, you have to know how big or how small the refrigerator needs to be to fit in the space correctly.

Imagine if you guessed the size, and when your refrigerator arrived, the appliance couldn’t fit because it was too tall to sit underneath kitchen cabinets above and too narrow at the edges next to countertops.

Washer and Dryer

When choosing a washer and dryer set for your home, you should think about the amount of space you have, the amount of laundry you do, and the amenities you want in a washer and dryer.

If you have a small space, you’ll want to consider a stacked set. If you do a lot of laundry in your household, you’ll want a greater capacity unit. If water conservation is important, you’ll want to think about getting a front loader, which typically requires less water. All of these factors play into your decision for a new washer and dryer.

HVAC Units

Many homes will have an existing HVAC system, but just because a home has one, it doesn’t mean the system operates properly. When you receive a home inspection, you will get a general report on your home’s specific system. You should ask several questions about the state of your HVAC system.

For example, you need to know the age of the HVAC system. Has the system been routinely maintained? By knowing these answers, you can adequately prepare to either buy a new system when you move in or plan for the future. Don’t wait until you are already living in your new home to find out that your HVAC system doesn’t work well.

Light Fixtures

One of the quickest and easiest ways to personalize your new house is to change light fixtures to your tastes. You can easily change the look of any room by adding a chandelier or other ornate fixture. Brighten a room with track lighting and direct light into areas that appear darker than others. You might want to replace brass fixtures and update them with darker bronzed fixtures so that you can watch how your home transforms from being an old-school space to something modern and trendy.

Searching for new appliances and fixtures is the fun part of buying a new home, so don’t be intimidated by the process. Instead, do your research and have fun shopping for new appliances and fixtures for your new home.
